Memory

Kael remembers this comet alive. Press and hold on the scene, and through the ice you see what stood here 211 years ago: hidden hatches, worn-off inscriptions, how the machines worked. Try it right here, this is the same effect as in the game.

The frozen Sleep Sector: broken capsules and a dark status board

Press, hold and move across the scene. Linger where Kael remembers something.

The prequel

Twelve minutes on why the Aeonians left dying Aeonar and why the road to a new home took fifty thousand years. This is the history Kael wakes up into. The video is narrated in Russian.

An ark inside a comet

Aeonar was cooling for tens of thousands of years. So the Aeonians hollowed out a comet, built greenhouses, living sectors, laboratories and a Sleep Sector full of capsules inside it, and left for a distant yellow star. The journey took fifty thousand years.

Kael Soren, of the family of builders who keep the comet’s blueprints, lay down in a capsule for the usual twenty years. He woke up after two hundred and eleven. The engine is dead, half the sectors are under ice, and the living no longer look ahead. They call his waking a miracle, and they hesitate before saying the name Soren.

  • Who woke him?
  • Why is his family blamed for the disaster?
  • Where is Aeon really going?
Cutaway of the comet Aeon: tiers of sectors, greenhouses and a glowing core inside ice and rock

Kael’s notebook

The game has almost no interface. Kael keeps goals, clues and notes by hand, and the same notebook holds the board with the game’s main question.

Reminders

  • Examine everything. Pick up, combine, use. Eight things in your hands at most.
  • Valves, gears, prisms, power circuits, a star map: 36 puzzles in all.
  • You can’t lose. No dead ends, and a bad line in a dialogue just gets you nothing.
  • Stuck? Hints come in steps, from a nudge to the answer.
  • After chapter five you choose what chapter six will be. Three endings.

Who woke me?

  • An ampoule for the Spark lay on the floor by my capsule. On the stopper is the Keepers’ seal.
  • The Council seal on the Sleep Sector door is intact. So whoever came did not use the door.
